The House of Representatives plenary has been adjourned until May 16, said the house clerk, Yahaya Danzaria, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that the earlier adjourned date of May 9 would no longer stand as it would not allow members to participate actively in the ongoing induction programme of the 10th Assembly.

“This is to inform all members and the general public that the House of Representatives will not resume plenary on Tuesday, May 9, as earlier adjourned. The next adjourned date will be Tuesday, May 16.

“This change is intended to allow members to partake actively in the ongoing induction programme of the 10th National Assembly. All inconveniences are highly regretted,” he said.

Meanwhile, OsunDaily earlier reported that lawmakers threatened to impeach the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, accusing him of forging the house’s standing rules in favour of his ally as his successor, OsunDaily learnt.

A source familiar with the matter told The Gazette that about 100 lawmakers had registered their displeasure at the development and signed a notice of impeachment on the Speaker.

The lawmakers alleged that Mr Gbajabiamila falsified the clause on the procedure for electing the Speaker and his deputy in the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives (10th edition). They said the doctored document provided that the house presiding officers would be elected through an open ballot against the existing rule of secret ballot.
