The House of Representatives on Thursday (today) commented on the actions taken by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during the conduct of recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTMEs).

During a recent visit to the JAMB headquarters, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Ejikeme Mmesomaโ€™s case, Soli Sada, said the exam body, under the supervision of its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has done well to curb acts of criminalities through the deployment of technological innovations.

OsunDailyNG recalls that Mmesoma is an Anambra student who recently confessed to forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results to 362.

Mmesoma had paraded herself as the highest-scoring candidate of the year with the forged result.

However, JAMB labelled the result as โ€œpatently fake,โ€ clarifying that her actual score was 249.

After the controversies following the claim from the exam body, she finally admitted to the crime.

However, in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday through JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, Sadaโ€™s led committee applauded the exam body for fortifying its operations against criminal infiltrations.

The committee also congratulated the board for generating enough revenue for the federation account, stating that JAMB was one of the public institutions with quality governance.

โ€œThis is one of the institutions that demonstrated the quality of Nigerians that we have in public sector governance of this country.

โ€œWhat we have seen today in JAMB is a testimony of the quality of public officers that are there and how they are disciplined. No wonder JAMB is generating good revenue for the federation account.

โ€œWe, as an institution of the parliament, have come, and we have seen and will definitely go back with a report to the parliament and see how we can strengthen the capacity of JAMB so that they will continue to provide quality services to the country,โ€ Sada said.

In his remark, JAMB Registrar, Oloyede disclosed that from the Situation Room, the board could be able to communicate with all the states and also relate with the candidates during the examinations.

He said: โ€œFrom my office, I monitor all the centres, accreditation of CBT centres, I pay attention during registration, monitoring of admissions to over 1000 higher institutions.โ€

JAMB is said to have remitted N2 billion as its interim surplus for the 2023 operating year to the Federal Government. The exam body had boasted that more would be remitted as its operations for the year are completed.

Since assuming office, the Oloyede-led management had remitted over N55 billion to the Federal Government coffers.
