French Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint Germain, are planning to buy Nigeria international Victor Osimhen from Napoli to partner with French star Kylian Mbappe in attack.
PSGโs attempt to buy highly rated Victor Osimhen this summer is inspired by the clubโs desire to keep dispirited Mbappe at the club beyond next season.
Recall that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has written to PSG that he would not extend his contract with the club which will expire on June 30, 2024. This has sparked fear of losing the 24-year-old prolific French forward for free next summer.
The leadership of PSG have gone as far as threatening Mbappe with being sold this summer if he doesnโt extend his contract with the club.
Since that strategy does not look like it might work, PSG have decided to make the Frenchman believe in the clubโs project by signing a player like Osimhen to partner him in attack, according to SPORT.es.
PSG have already submitted two bids to Napoli for the signature of the Nigeria international. The Italian reigning champions have rejected the โฌ100 million bid PSG submitted in June. They are expected to reject the โฌ120 million second bid the French side submitted this July.
Napoli are expecting nothing less than โฌ200 million from Osimhenโs suitors since they are not interested in signing him this summer. It is expected that no club would be willing to pay such an amount of money for the 24-year-old Nigerian striker.
Recall that Victor Osimhen had the best season of his football career in the 2022-2023 season, in which he scored 26 goals and provided five assists to help Napoli to win their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Osimhen ended the season with an Italian Serie A golden boot and as the leagueโs highest goalscorer of the season.
