Presidential aide, Dada Olusegun, has reacted to the denial by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) of any plan to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Recall that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on Friday indicated that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) may rise to about N750 per litre.

Following the development, there were speculations that the national oil company was planning to raise the price of petrol from the current N617 per litre to between N720 and N750.

Reacting to the speculation of a pump price hike, the NNPCL stated that it has no intention to increase the price of petrol and asked Nigerians to buy the best quality products at the most affordable prices at its NNPC Retail Stations nationwide.

In a Twitter post on Monday evening, Olusegun said the speculation about an increase in the price of petrol can now be dismissed since the NNPC has cleared the air.

The presidential aide also called out the media, saying the media should do a better job of fact-checking before going tp publish any news.

He wrote: “NNPC says there are no plans to increase pump price. The media needs to do a better job of fact checking before going ballistic on news like this.”
