The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command, announced on Thursday that it rescued nine children from initiation into cultism.

The development was made known on social media by the Lagos Commandโ€™s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, OsunDailyNG reports.

Hundeyin, who shared a photo of the young boys, said they were all rescued in the Mushin area of the state.

โ€œWe need to strengthen the family unit. Nine children, youngest, 9, and oldest, 14, rescued during/after forced initiation into cultism in Mushin area of Lagos State,โ€ he wrote on his Twitter page.

The police mouthpiece noted that an incision had already been made on their body, indicating their initiation.

While he did not give further details about the rescue, he said, โ€œInvestigation is ongoingโ€ about the matter.โ€ย

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday gave an update on the man who jumped into the lagoon at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge area of Lagos on Tuesday.

The police confirmed the identity of the deceased as Buka Abana.

This is coming after rescue workers succeeded in retrieving Abanaโ€™s corpse on Thursday after days of searching.

The spokesman of the state command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a chat with Punch, had claimed that the 30-year-old had been on hard drugs.

He further stated that he had left his Lekki Phase I residence about two days before the incident.

It was noted that his family members, who had formed a search party for him, later received information that he was sighted around the bridge and decided to go after him.

Hundeyin said, โ€œThe manโ€™s name is Buka Abana. He was aged 30. He had been taking Colorado hard drugs.

โ€œHe left home for two days, and in the process of searching for him, he sighted the family members and jumped into the lagoon as soon as he saw them.โ€

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity with the platform also said, โ€œThe man lived in Lekki Phase I. He had been taking Colorado. He was missing for two days, and his family members were searching for him.

โ€œThey got information that he was seen around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, and they rushed there to take him home.

โ€œUnfortunately, when he sighted them, he quickly jumped into the lagoon.โ€
