A vigilante, Yahaya Mohammed, was on Monday paraded by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly killing a commercial motorcyclist before robbing him of his motorcycle.
The vigilante was alongside 37 other suspects paraded for allegedly being involved in various criminal activities in the state.
The spokesman for the command, Abiodun Wasiu, while parading the suspects explained that investigations were ongoing to unravel the details of their crimes before taking them to court.
According to him, the police received information of a lifeless body with a slit throat at the Shabalile area of Mokwa, adding that the police operatives, led by DPO Mokwa Division, mobilized to the scene and evacuated the corpse to a morgue.
In the course of an investigation, he said on 2nd October 2023, at about 1130hrs, a Bajaj motorcycle suspected to have been snatched from the deceased was recovered from an uncompleted building in Mokwa, while the investigation led to the arrest of one 20-year-old Usman Yahaya Muhammed of Kinboku-Kudu village of Mokwa.
โDuring interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and said he boarded the motorcycle to Eppa village and while on their way, he stopped the rider and macheted him to death,โ he said.
He said the suspect abandoned the corpse and took the motorcycle away, saying the case is under investigation at SCID Minna.
The spokesman declared that the suspect would be arraigned for culpable homicide after the investigation.
The suspect, Mohammed, while speaking with newsmen, confessed to the crime, saying that he did not know why he did it and did not want to die.
