No fewer than 18 suspected drug addicts who are between the ages of 17 and 39 were on Wednesday paraded by the Edo State Police Command.

OsunDailyNG reports that State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adeboye, who paraded the suspects said they were arrested on February 27, at a drug hideout in Benin City.

Adeboye, said they were arrested by the surveillance unit of the command during a raid on their hideout following a credible
intelligence.

He said substance suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered from the suspects comprising 12 males and six females.

According to him, the police receive information that a particular house located in Ogbelaka Street has become a den for criminal elements, illicit drug arms and ammunition.

โ€œThe suspects also used the place to make all the necessary plans before the perpetration of crimes within Benin metropolis.

โ€œThe police stormed the place and arrested the 18 persons including 12 males and six females between the age of 17 and 39 years. Substance suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered from them.

โ€œThe suspects were brought to the command for profiling, interrogation and investigationโ€, he said.

Adeboye, who called on the people not to harbour drug users but report to the appropriate quarters, added that the police are on the trail of drugs dealer who are selling drugs to youths in the state.

He, however, alleged that the effect of their drugs intake is telling on the suspects as some of them are no longer useful to the society

The commissioner, said the suspects would be handed over to police medical doctors for rehabilitation, while those whose condition are above the hospital would be sent to the appropriate place they need to be for treatment.
