The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious cultist terrorizing residents in the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, made the disclosure via a statement on Tuesday in Benin.
Nwabuzor said that men of the Fugar Police Division intercepted the suspect during a stop-and-search operation in the area.
He said that the suspect, aged 30, was riding a Haojue motorcycle, when he was arrested.
TAccording to him, the police recovered one cut-to-size double-barrel gun and nine rounds of live cartridges from the suspect, adding that the suspect has confessed to membership of Black Axe.
Nwabuzor said that the suspect confessed that he was taking the gun to Auchi in Edo to meet some other secret cult members.
The PPRO said the suspect, the gun and the cartridges will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
He quoted the state Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye as praising the Fugar divisional police officer and his team members for gallantry and commitment to fighting crime.
According to the spokesperson, Adegboye said that hardship would not be an excuse for committing crime.
