Fresh facts about the Tuesday fire incident at a popular market in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, have emerged.
OsunDailyNG earlier reported that a section of the popular Wuse market was gutted by fire, leading to destruction of shops, cars and other valuables.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident to OsunDailyNG.
Our correspondent later learnt that trouble began when a suspect who was being tried in the market mobile court, attempted to run away but was shot dead by a yet-to-be-identified police officer.
The action of the officer triggered a civil unrest in the area as some angry traders and hoodlums set some shops and vehicles in the car park ablaze within the market.
The incident, OsunDailyNG learnt from eyewitnesses, resulted in a stampede in the market as people scampered to salvage their properties.
When contacted by OsunDailyNG, the FCT PPRO said Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh led a response team of the command to the scene to address and put the situation under control.
โThe police operatives are on ground and normalcy has been restored,โ she stated.
SP Adeh promised to revert with details of the unfortunate incident.
