The Cross River State Police Command has assured residents of competent policing throughout the state during the annual Calabar Carnival, which began on Friday.
The promise was made in a statement issued by the Commandโs spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, in Calabar on Monday and made available to newsmen.
Ugbo stated that cops had been sent around the state to staff leisure centers and critical infrastructure, particularly in the capital city.
The goal, she says, is to ensure effective policing during the festival.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, had ordered rigorous vehicular and foot patrols across Calabar before, during, and after the festival season.
The Command warned all โpotentialโ dealers and users of fireworks to desist from the illegitimate venture.
According to the statement, the commissioner urged parents and guardians to keep their children and wards away from fireworks merchants due to the current security scenario across the country.
โResidents are warned to be wary of some dastardly criminal elements operating in motorcycles to rob people within Calabar and its environs.
โWe will also be invoking the extant state and federal laws accordingly,โ Ugbo stated.
