The Nigeria Police Force said it has recorded another significant milestone in the fight against cybercrime and related offences following the arrest of two suspects, Chinonso Eze and Victory Ebomuche, on October 4, 2023, in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy, identity theft, and computer-related fraud.

Police said Eze and Ebomuche, aged 18 and 24, respectively, were arrested at their residence in Agua Marina Estate, Apo, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Adejobi stated that the arrest was a testament to exhaustive investigative efforts and reflected the Forceโ€™s staunch commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism in combating cybercrime.

According to him: โ€œThis operation exposed a complex web of cybercriminal activities, primarily revolving around romance scams and fraudulent online investments. Such activities not only exploit individuals but also pose a significant threat to our nationโ€™s cybersecurity.

โ€œAs part of our ongoing efforts, we have identified potential victims associated with the suspects and are actively working to mitigate both immediate and remote cyber threats.โ€

He added that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to safeguarding the nationโ€™s digital environment and would appreciate the continued support and cooperation of the public in its efforts to combat cybercrime.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, DCP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, for the significant successes.

Adejobi stated that Egbetokun, in his speech, underscored the critical importance of vigilance and caution when engaging in online interactions.

The IGP further urged the global cyber community to verify the authenticity of online acquaintances, exercise discretion in financial engagements, and promptly report any suspicious online activity to the authorities.
