The National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has confirmed the arrest of officers who extorted N29.9 million from a businessman in Abuja.

OsunDailyNG reports that an X user, @HarrisonBbi18, narrated on January 25, 2024, in a video how a businessman was abducted by some armed policemen while on his way to one of his sites in Abuja.

The officers reportedly went through the victimโ€™s mobile phones and detained him until he transferred all the money in his bank account to them.

Reacting to the post in the comments section, the FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, wrote: โ€œPlease kindly assist the police by telling the victim to come see me personally (PPRO FCT Police Command) with the evidence of transactions at FCT Police Command. We need your cooperation to bring erring officers like this to book. Or you can call this number: 09022222352.โ€

Giving an update on the incident in a post on his official X on Tuesday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that some of the suspects have been arrested as investigation is still ongoing.

Sharing the post, Adejobi wrote: โ€œWe are making headway on this matter, and justice will be served, as some suspects have been arrested. Hakuna matata.โ€
