The Zone-2 police command in Lagos State has arrested a cleric, Alhaji Afeez Imoleayo, for allegedly charming his US-based friend to take over his family and properties running into hundreds of millions.
OsunDailyNG gathered that along with the Lagos-based cleric, his wife and four other accomplices, identified as Ramon Uthman, Saidi Ajayi, Alhaja Monsurat Salami, and Kikelomo, were arrested.
Confirming the development, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone-2, Mr. Ali Mohammed, while parading them, told pressmen that the cleric had confessed to using spiritual charm on his friend based in the United State, and he took over control of his wife and three children, with several properties.
The zone-2 AIG said in more than ten years that his US-based friend had been under bondage; the cleric and his wife had stolen money amounting to N105 million, five vehicles, and landed properties belonging to his U.S.-based friend.
Mohammed revealed that the cleric admitted having bewitched the friend into changing his childrenโs names and land documents into his.
And his wife confessed to altering the birth documents of the complainantโs children to bear the clericโs name.
The clericโs wife also admitted to receiving more than 17,000 dollars (about N11.8 million) from the complainant.
The AIG recalled that, on July 17, 2023, a complaint was lodged with the police by a Nigerian identified as Animashaun.
And that led to the arrest of the cleric and his wife, and other accomplices.
The AIG explained that โThe suspect abducted the petitionerโs wife and children for more than ten years; subsequently changed their names to his through the help of his wife.
โHe converted all the petitionerโs properties to his own, claiming that God directed him to do so.
โIt was God that opened the petitionerโs eyes ten years after when he realised what he was doing and returned to Nigeria to file his petition.
โInvestigation showed that the suspect met the complainant at a religious place in Lagos, after which they became friends.
โThe complainant is based in the U.S.A and became close to the suspect about 16 years ago. While they were friends, the complainant started to send the suspect money to execute a project.
โInstead, the suspect converted the complainantโs entire savings amounting to more than N105 million to his own.โโ
Mohammed, however, revealed that one white Toyota Venza 2009 model, one Ashok Leyland Bus, and various landed properties had been recovered from the suspects.
