Governors under the platform of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, once again called for the establishment of state police when they visited Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State over the recent deteriorating security situation in the state.

The PDP governors, who donated N100 million to help cater to the victims of the attacks, said having state police will help stem the tide of the recurring security challenges bedevilling the country.

The chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Muhammed, stated this when the forum paid Gov Mutfwang a solidarity visit in Government House, Rayfield, Jos, over the recent security breach in some communities of the state, which claimed scores of lives and destroyed properties and means of livelihood of residents.

Gov Muhammed said: โ€œWe commiserate with you and the people of Plateau State and also extend our heartfelt condolences over the recent unfortunate incidents that claimed many lives and properties.

โ€œWe are saddened by these happenings, and we are praying that these incidents will be checkmated. We have confidence in Governor Mutfwangโ€™s ability to address the security challenges with wisdom and courage.โ€

He encouraged the governor to be strong, assuring him that they are with him in his travails.

โ€œWe want to urge the Federal Government to reconsider the establishment of state police as a crucial step to address the prevailing security challenges across the country,โ€ he said.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang appreciated the governors for their show of love and concern for the state during its moment of grief.

He said: โ€œInsecurity in Nigeria has become a national challenge that should be dealt with collectively.โ€

The governor calls for unity among all and sundry to combat armed banditry, terrorism, and criminal activities in the country.

โ€œWe must do our best to rebuild trust and hope among our people; criminality should not be treated with levity,โ€ he admonished.

Mutfwang further noted that the entire state is deeply grateful for the solidarity shown by the PDP governors.

โ€œYour presence has encouraged us as a people; we will ever remain grateful,โ€ he maintained.

Other governors present include Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ahmadu Frintiri of Adamawa, Peter Mbah of Enugu, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun.
