The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has reversed his statement condemning the federal government over an alleged National Grid collapse.

OsunDailyNG reported that barely ten days into the new year, Nigeriaโ€™s national power grid reportedlyย experienced its first major collapse of 2025 on Saturday, allegedly plunging the nation into a widespread blackout.

Reacting to the reported Grid collapse, Peter Obiย lamented that the collapse has now become a recurring decimal in Nigeriaโ€™s national life.

Obi submitted that the constant collapses have caused untold setbacks and hardship for households and businesses in the country.

However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) dismissed reports of any national grid collapse.

According to the TCN, what occurred was line tripping which affected only in Lagos State.

In a fresh statement on his X handle on Sunday, Peter Obi stated that he was now informed that the grid did not collapse.

He appreciated the TCN for their prompt clarification on the matter.

The former Anambra State governor wrote: โ€œFollowing my earlier message regarding the alleged collapse of the National Grid, which was based on reports from reputable media platforms, I have since learned that there was no such collapse. Instead, the incident involved the tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines, which affected the Lagos axis.

โ€œI appreciate the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their prompt clarification on the matter.

โ€œI sincerely hope we will prioritize enhancing our infrastructure in the power sector and remain committed to improving power generation to meet the growing needs of over 200 million Nigerians.โ€
