The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has received the report of a reconciliation committee from the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party over the lingering crisis rocking the party.
The report was presented on Friday by the PDP BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara at a meeting in Abuja.
OsunDaily News reports Wabara while speaking during the presentation of the findings and recommendations by the committee on the issues causing the crisis in the PDP noted that egos have been bruised but called for sacrifice and understanding from all parties concerned.
He added that the BoT has tried to be fair and firm in the report and expressed hope that the recommendations would be accepted and implemented in the interest of the party.
Other BoT members in the reconciliation committee are Tanimu Turaki, Shuaibu Oyedokun, Ibrahim Idris, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Esther Uduehi and Zainab Maina.
Wabara in his presentation said: “We carried out our assignment with an open mind. 2023 is for PDP to win or lose. A lot of ego has been hurt on both sides.
“Our position is advisory and if we are indeed the conscience of the party, then we should be free, fair and courageous. The situation requires a little bit of sacrifice and understanding”.
Responding, Ayu appreciated the BoT members for their efforts at restoring peace to the party, adding that the focus is on winning the 2023 election.
The report will be presented at the next meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for deliberation and consideration.
OsunDaily News reports the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike his loyalists including four other Governors had insisted on the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu as a way of bringing balance to the party leadership structure and a condition for them to support the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
Ayu on his part, insisted he won’t resign and vowed to complete his four-year tenure.
