The Peoples Democratic Party Abia (PDP) in Abia State has criticised Destiny Nwagwu, the immediate past Labour Party lawmaker representing Aba North constituency, for protesting against his removal by the Appeal Court.

Nwagwu was sacked by the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos on Monday on the ground that the lawmaker could not provide evidence of his membership in the Labour Party before his election.

PDP, in a statement signed by Abraham Amah, the partyโ€™s vice chairman and acting publicity secretary, on Monday evening, alleged that the protest by the former lawmaker in the streets of Aba was capable of inciting the people.

PDP said that the lawmaker should have accepted the ruling in good faith rather than asking the people of Aba to resist the judgement.

โ€œThis is not the first time and it is in the character of the Labour Party to be selective in accepting the judgements of the court by always rejecting and deriding the court once any case goes against it.

โ€œThis attitude is unacceptable because it is an affront to the judiciary, which remains the last hope of the common man and one of the strongest safeguards of our democracy. Every rational mind and lover of democracy should be bold in condemning this rascality,โ€ the PDP statement reads in part.

Nwagwu, the erstwhile Deputy Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, has been lamenting about the Appeal Court judgement, which he described as โ€œa miscarriage of justice.โ€ He claimed that the mandate given to him by his Aba North constituents had been taken away.
