Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has submitted that the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi did not ask Nigerians to believe in President Bola Tinubu as a person but only asked the citizens to believe in God and Nigeria.
Omokri in a post via his Twitter account on Thursday said no matter who won the 2023 presidential election, Pastor Kumuyi would still have asked Nigerians to believe in their country.
The political and social commentator made the submission while tackling supporters of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi over their stand on a recent statement by Pastor Kumuyi.
OsunDailyNG recalls the popular clergy on Tuesday,ย urged Nigerians to be at ease, noting that God would rebuild Nigeria through President Tinubu.
Pastor Kumuyi stated this while addressing newsmen ahead of the monthly Global Crusade of the Church scheduled for Osogbo on Thursday.ย He said God has not forsaken the country and Nigerians will witness a new country through the President.
However, some obidients have taken to social media to call out the Pastor citing the general economic situation in the country following the fuel subsidy removal by the Tinubu administration.
However, Omokri on Thursday said Pastor Kumuyi was not defending any particular government but only urging Nigerians to believe in God for a better country. He added that, unlike some other clerics, the Deeper Life General Overseer never campaigned for any particular candidate in the 2023 polls.
He added that Kumuyi has a clean record and should not be castigated simply because his statement didnโt suit some set of people, noting that the clergyโs submission is a patriotic rather than political statement.
The former presidential aide also asked if the obidients have any hidden agenda for the division of the country.
According to him, โPastor Kumuyi never campaigned for any Presidential candidate, unlike people like Pastor Enenche, who openly campaigned for Peter Obi. No matter who won the election, Pastor Kumuyi would have still asked Nigerians to believe in Nigeria, even if it were Peter Obi.
โHe is eighty-two years old, and throughout his life, he has never been accused of theft, financial misconduct or fraud. He is not one of those pastors who preach tithe and financial breakthroughs.
โHow investments in education are helping Nigeria. Of the top five students in the last JAMB UTME results, three were from schools he and the ministry God entrusted to him founded. None of his students forge results and are defended by some elites. They pass genuinely.
โWhy would you Obidients castigate and malign him simply for asking g Nigerians to believe in Nigeria? He did not ask Nigerians to believe in Tinubu. He asked us to believe in our God and our country. Or do you guys have hatred for Nigeria? Do you have a hidden agenda for the division of this country?
โIf not, can you guys tell us precisely what crone Pastor Kumuyi committed?โ
