Report shows that over 56% of all social infrastructural in Jigawa State are not accessible by persons living with disability (PWD) across the state.

This was part of the outcome of a survey conducted by Connect Development Project Trust presented at the stakeholdersโ€™ meeting held in Dutse, the state capital.

Presenting the report outcome, the program assistant, Miss Nkem Gloria said the aim of the research was to establish baseline information on the existence of governance accountability system and social infrastructural access for persons living with disability (PWD) across the project states.

According to her โ€œ56% of community projects does not have any provision for PWDs.

โ€œ81% of people are not aware of state legislation that internalises PWD needs in service delivery.

โ€œOnly 6% of citizens have knowledge about existence of state laws on citizenโ€™s participation in fiscal governance.

โ€œOn project implementation, 93% of projects started are likely to be completed.โ€

She, however, noted that the state was above others in terms of PWDsโ€™ inclusion.

Adamu Sulaiman, Jigawa State Support Officer of Connect Department said the Project Trust, funded by the MacArthur Foundation, aimed to build a community of practice in six states: Bayelsa, Kwara, Anambra, Jigawa, Osun, and Yobe.

He said the project brings together over 24 communities of practice members to leverage their work and activate members in their respective states to lead the implementation of accountability systems.
