Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has stated that his administration will go ahead with plans to reform the mining sector in the state.

Adeleke also revealed that the aim of the reform is to ensure maximum benefit for the state from available mineral resources.

The governor made this known on Thursday on the sidelines of the maiden meeting with the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, at the state secretariat, Abere.

Noting that his administration was also working to improve on the internally generated revenue of the state, Adeleke added that he has taken steps to ensure that excessive tax burden was not imposed on the people.

He also stated that all federal interventions executed under his watch have been judiciously administered.

He said, โ€œThe reform of the solid mineral sector is ongoing. The goal is to ensure maximum benefit for the state from her natural resources. We are working to improve internally generated revenue without imposing an excessive tax burden on our people.

โ€œWe cultivated a culture of saving for project execution. Unlike practice in the past, federal interventions under our watch are judiciously administered.

โ€œIn recent months, following the economic crisis triggered at the national level, we implemented palliative administration in transparent and accountable manners. We did not hoard palliative materials. We rather allowed the public through various associations to handle the distribution.

โ€œIn a demonstration of responsible leadership, we created a project account to keep the N7 billion naira federal intervention fund. As the state is spending multi-billion naira on the infra agenda, the N7 billion is an addition to contribute to the bridging of the state infra deficit.โ€
