The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun Stare has rejected the nominees of Governor Ademola Adeleke as chairman of the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
Osun IPAC, in rejecting the OSIEC nominees as constituted by the state governor, maintained that it is a desecration of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that they can not conduct a credible election in the state.
In a statement jointly signed by Wale Adebayo and Tosin Odeyemi, Osun IPAC Chairman and Secretary, on Thursday, it was held that the person nominated as OSIEC chairman is a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and a serving Senior Special Assistant to Governor Adeleke on legal matters.
According to the statement, โBarrister Abioye lacks proven honesty to lead the commission and should therefore be disqualified by the House of Assembly.
โThe brazen imposition of a card-carrying member and prominent member of the PDP in Osun State is distasteful, to say the least.
โHe is legally unqualified to conduct free and fair elections in the state and we urge the governor to correct the anomaly, which is a desecration of the express provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which he swore to uphold,โ the statement read.
Governor Adeleke had forwarded the name of Hashim Abioye as his nomination for OSIEC Chairman to the Osun State House of Assembly on Thursday for confirmation.
The Osun Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egebdun, in confirming the receipt of the governorโs nomination, directed the nominees to forward their curriculum vitae to the Assembly for screening.
