A middle-aged man identified as Adebayo Peter took the life of his friend, known as Lekan, at the Ireakari-Oloko junction area in Akure South Local Council Area of Ondo State at the weekend.
Peter allegedly committed the crime while under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be ‘ice,’ a crystalized form of amphetamine-based drugs.
After committing the crime, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the state police command, while the lifeless body of the victim has been deposited at the mortuary.
The suspect and the deceased were said to have hailed from the same community as Ede in Osun State.
According to sources, Peter and Lekan had engaged in an altercation before the former attacked the deceased with a gas cannon, which he smashed on his head.
“It was the shouts of one of their friends, who hails from Delta State, that attracted our attention to the incident.
“When we got into the room, we found Lekan in a pool of blood. He was still breathing. But shortly after, he died. We had to invite the police.”
While confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation.
