The reigning world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk will face British boxer Daniel Dubois on August 26 in Wroclaw, Poland, to defend his WBO, WBA (Super), and IBF titles.
Usyk, a 36-year-old Ukrainian boxing icon, will compete against Dubois, the WBA’s mandatory challenger, in the 24,000-seat Tarczynski Arena.
Dubois is a 25-year-old reigning winner of the WBA (Regular) who has won 19 bouts with 18 knockouts and only one loss.
Usyk who has triumphed in all 20 of his professional matches, will undertake his second defense of his unified belts when he faces the British heavyweight boxer in August.
“He is a great fighter and I do respect him, but it’s my time now,” the 25-year-old British boxer said.
“I’m going to shock the world and show people how good Daniel Dubois really is.”
The match was originally scheduled for August 12, but it was pushed forward by two weeks to August 26 to better coincide with Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, more than a million Ukrainian refugees fled to Poland. Hence, the country is seen as Ukraine’s second home.
“I am very glad that we have the opportunity to organize my fight in Poland, where I won my first world title seven years ago,” Usyk said.
The Ukrainian boxer added, “I want to thank the Polish people who are helping Ukraine so sincerely. Hundreds of thousands of my compatriots have been hosted by this wonderful country.
“Therefore, I hope that my fight will become one more opportunity for Ukrainians and the people of Poland to unite and strengthen our friendship.”
