Candidate of the Action Alliance, AA in the November 8 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Mr Jeff Nweke has flagged off his campaign for the position.

Nweke held the flag off at the weekend in Awka, the state capital where he hails from.

Speaking during the flag off, Nweke marveled at the large crowd of people who turned out for the rally and reeled out key areas he would prioritise if elected the governor of Anambra.

He said: “My mission is simple: to wipe away the tears of hunger, unemployment, insecurity and deprivation among members of the downtrodden, and bring succour to them.

“I believe our people deserve the best. I’m offering a fresh vision that prioritizes quality education, improved infrastructure and fight against hunger and poverty through meaningful empowerment.

“Under my watch as governor, it is ‘You First’. That is democracy, a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

“We will prioritize security. My government will not witness any form of Fulani herdsmen kidnap or from some of our brothers who call themselves unknown gunmen. Maybe you people don’t know, I’m a security expert and we know what to do when we come aboard.

“This campaign is about you. I’m seeking your support so that together we can correct the anomalies and deliver the true dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.

The rally which was attended by several groups from several communities and leaders of religious groups, including the headship of the Muslim community, witnessed testimonies from many, who attested to his large heart and the drive to deliver.

Youth leader of Ezinano, Tochukwu Okoye who spoke at the rally charged supporters of the security expert turned politician to ensure they use the opportunity of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, to get their voters cards.

He said: “That’s your power to enthrone Jeff Nweke. I urge the youth, women and men to support the man who can take away their burden and wipe away their tears,” he noted.

Plateau Attacks: We are herders, we don’t harbour bandits, terrorists’ – Fulani Ardo insists

Three killed in fresh bandits attack on Plateau community

The head of cattle herders in the Mahanga community of Jol district in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Ardo Mahmud Adam, has denied allegations that they harbour terrorists and bandits who carry out attacks in the communities.

The accusations, they say, are unfounded and aimed at tarnishing their image.

Farming communities in Riyom, particularly, the Berom ethnic group, have repeatedly accused Fulani herders in Mahanga of sheltering armed groups responsible for attacks in the area.

Ardo Adam who vehemently denied the allegations during a visit by the fact-finding committee set up by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, dismissed the allegations, saying that on the contrary, the natives are the aggressors who instigate such attacks by rustling Fulani cows and launching attacks on herders.

While addressing the committee led by Maj. Gen. Nickolas Rogers (retd.), Ardo Adam said in the last two months, Fulani herders have lost over 100 cattle to gunmen, accusing the Berom natives of orchestrating the raids.

“We are humble herders who go about our business of rearing our cattle without looking for anyone’s trouble,” Adamu said.

“But I can tell you that the attacks are orchestrated by the Berom people who attack our people and rustle their cows.

“Security operatives of Operation Safe Haven have been stationed in Mahanga for years. If there were terrorists here, wouldn’t they have been arrested?” he asked.

Adam stressed that recurring crises in other parts of the state are wrongly blamed on herders.

“Whenever violence erupts in Mangu, Bokkos or Bassa, we are accused without evidence. No attacker has ever been traced back to Mahanga.

“These gunmen frequently shoot at our people and their cattle, making it increasingly difficult for our people to graze in peace.

“We can no longer rear cattle safely. Does being Fulani mean we don’t have the right to graze?

“We are often accused without evidence, and denied our rights. Social media is used to label us as terrorists,” he stated.
