The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River State, Charles Brown has disclosed that in one year and two months, the corps has arrested and prosecuted no more than 14 cases of vandalisation of public infrastructures.

He disclosed this over the weekend in an interview with journalists when he revealed that the Corps picked up one Ibrahim Sani, a 40-year-old man, who was caught stealing armoured cables and flex wires as well as vandalizing streetlights in Calabar.

According to him, the act of vandalising public infrastructures used to be recurrent but the agency had made the state too hot for vandals.

โ€œWe are going to make the state very hot for vandals. In the last 14 months, we have ensured the prosecution of 14 cases. All these cases are on vandalisation of critical infrastructures.

โ€œThe suspect we arrested over the weekend had confessed that he sells what he steals to scrap metal dealers.

โ€œWe invited some of these dealers but they all denied him and he was not able to identify any of them.โ€

Brown appealed to residents to be on the lookout for any vandal of government property in their communities and report to the corps.

He also called for partnership with the state government in the area of facilities, to enable the Corps patrol and keep surveillance of critical and national assets in the state.
