Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Saturday, foiled an attempt by bandits to kidnap Alhaji Lawal Shittu Yar’Adua, manager of the Federal Government Special Grains Reserve in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina.
This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of NSCDC in the State, DSC Buhari Hamisu.
According to the statement, “The Agro Ranger operatives deployed to provide security to the silo and staff were on red alert and they responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel for over two hours.
“The NSCDC personnel engaged the bandits and overpowered them as they escaped through the fence of the reserve and escaped with various degrees of injuries.
“The silo was not damaged, nor did the criminals succeed in their nefarious act.
“Relevant security agencies were alerted for reinforcement, while we have detailed more personnel to be deployed to the location and to increase the firepower of the operatives on ground to prevent the recurrence of the attacks.”
The statement further appealed to the members of the public to always give vital and timely information to security operatives on any suspected movement.
