The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has said that the โ€œNo Work, No Payโ€ policy must start with President Muhammadu Buhari because he has not done his job as the president.

The AAC presidential candidate stated this on Friday evening during a presidential town hall meeting organised by News Central TV.

OsunDaily News recalls that after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended its eight months strike on October 18, the Federal Government insisted on enforcing the โ€œno work, no payโ€ policy, hence, the lecturers were paid half their salary for October.

This has generated unrest amongst the educationists as they have threatened to embark on a sit-at-home if the federal government fails to pay them full salaries.

While responding to a question on the governmentโ€™s insistence on enforcing the no work, no pay policy on ASUU, Sowore maintained that Nigerian workers must be paid since their industrial action was based on a just course.

He said, โ€œWhen the strike is just, you will have to pay the strikers. They didnโ€™t want to do this, it was the government that forced them into it.

โ€œIf you want to start the enforcement of not paying the people who are not working, I think the President should be number one because he barely works. And the truth is that these are the things that escalate the problems. You canโ€™t keep escalating the problems by engaging in things that made them.

โ€œOur higher institutions are too important to be played with the technical part of laws. Letโ€™s put the money they asked for. They are specific about how much they want. Letโ€™s find the money and give it to them. Their demands have been the same since the 1990s.โ€
