The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Council, TUC, have urged President Bola Tinubu to call Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to order.
The demand follows the violence that visited members of the workersโ unions in the state on Wednesday.
DAILY POST reports that the NLC President Joe Ajaero was picked up from the Congressโs Imo State Council Secretariat in Owerri by heavily armed security operatives.
The NLC and TUC in a joint statement signed by Emmanuel Ugboaja and Nuhu Toro, condemned the action of the Imo State Statement.
The labour groups lamented that Uzodinma had turned the state into a den of thugs and blood suckers.
โHope Uzodimma must be called to order by the President and Commander in chief of the Armed forces to avert what he has chosen to turn the state into โ a den of thugs and blood suckers,โ the statement said.
The unions, therefore, vowed to press on until the government listens to the demands of the workers.
โWe will press on with our engagement as trade unions until the Government listens to the demands of the workers.
โThe Governor should not be deluded into thinking that todayโs violence will stop our resolve and determination to save the workers of Imo state.
โIt has rather encouraged us to organize more so that we will engage him more creatively and effectively,โ
The unions described Ajaeroโs arrest and detention as unacceptable.
The Imo State Police Command had denied reports that its operatives arrested Ajaero.
