The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), on Wednesday, inaugurated a training programme for female founders to promote diversity and close the gender gap in technology.

The Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), an Abuja-based division of NITDA, launched the programme.

NITDA Director-General, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, stated this during the programโ€™s debut that it was one of their initiatives to increase digital literacy and give women the skills necessary to succeed in the tech industry.

He stated that the initiativeโ€™s goal was to empower and encourage women to use digital technology to create successful, scalable enterprises.

โ€œThis training programme is dedicated to discovering and highlighting innovative and technology-based concepts, ideas, and solutions created by women in Nigeria.

โ€œThe goal is to bridge gender disparities in the technological industry and encourage the creation of digital employment opportunities for women,โ€ he said.

Inuwa recalled that 7,151 applications from all over the states were received in less than two weeks after the call for participation was announced.

He stated that it demonstrated the intense curiosity that highlights the unrealized potential and zeal that exist among Nigerian women in the technology sector.

He said in order to eliminate gender imbalances in the tech industry, the agency would support and encourage these tech-based businesses started by women.
