Caroline Adepoju, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), has revealed a proposal to deploy e-gates and more logistics to airports and other entry sites to strengthen border security and migration management across the country.
Adepoju stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday.
According to her, electronic gates would be installed at select airports to improve the flow of passengers entering and exiting the country.
โOn the other hand, in migration management, NIS is deploying an e-gate to our airports as a pilot scheme because, as time goes on, electronic gates will be deployed in our various points of entry.
โThe purpose of this is to ease movement for our travelers and passengers,โ she added.
According to the NIS chief, whose nomination was ratified by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, under her leadership, Nigerians may expect improved border security and migration management.
She stated that suitable infrastructure would be implemented to ensure proper surveillance and documentation of people moving over the countryโs land, air, and maritime borders.
According to Adepoju, the agency would continue to train its workers and provide the required supplies to carry out their duties properly and efficiently.
