The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has requested the full consent and support of the Jigawa State government in establishing three additional electronic border stations within the state.

OsunDailyNG reports that the Assistant Controller-General of the Service responsible for the North-West region, Haladu Usman, made this announcement during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi on Tuesday in Dutse.

Usman emphasized that creating these e-border stations would help curb the activities of criminal elements and smuggling along the borders.

He further explained that the e-border initiative is an ongoing project aimed at monitoring border activities to diminish the occurrences of illegal crossings by individuals engaged in trans-border crimes.

โ€œSo, we will want to appeal for your kind attention to look into ways of assisting the service so that it can establish more e-border stations in Kumsa, Dangwanki and Galadi.

โ€œWe have these three places and the service is ever willing to build more e-border stations, but we are handicapped because of the issue of land.

โ€œSo, we want to appeal to His Excellency, to see the possibility of providing the service with land to build more e-border stations,โ€ Usman said.

He stated that the service is actively engaged in establishing e-border stations throughout the region to facilitate continuous monitoring across various state commands and the NIS headquarters.

He expressed appreciation for the state governmentโ€™s support, which significantly enhances the serviceโ€™s ability to fulfil its responsibilities effectively.

In response, Governor Namadi characterized the NIS command in the state as an integral component of its security framework.

โ€œThe innovation of the e-border project is a good one because in todayโ€™s world, without technology you will be left behind,โ€ he said, and called for the expansion of the project in the country.

โ€œI want to assure you of our support to ensure that these three areas are covered and the state controller liaises with SSG to see what we can do to ensure that we give you all the necessary support,โ€ the governor said.
