The Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, on Thursday inaugurated the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace and other institute fellows into the Nigeria Reputation Management Group.
In his acceptance speech as Chairman of the Group during an inauguration ceremony in Abuja, CG Adeniyi noted that the initiative was coming when Nigeria needed to revamp its reputation.
He said a well-harnessed reputation can turn around the countryโs economy.
โReputation plays a key role in every aspect of human endeavour.
โIndeed, any individual, organization, state or nation that wants to be taken seriously and be on top among peers must deliberate to promote the culture of โreputation consciousnessโ.
โUnfortunately, society, especially many African nations, has not recognized the power of reputation in turning their economies around.
โThough intangible in nature, reputation as a concept is so critical that if the components are properly understood, effectively planned, efficiently harnessed and well deployed, will position any country for greater value, global relevance and remarkable competitiveness,โ he said.
On his part, the DG of VON, Ndace, urged Nigerians to be unapologetic, bold and trustful in telling the Nigeria story.
He noted that Nigeria is not the worst country in the world.
Dr Ike Neliaku, the President of NIPR, emphasized the groupโs seriousness, noting that Nigeria urgently needs a reputation revamp.
