The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has ordered for a comprehensive investigation into an alleged citizensโ data breach by XpressVerify.
The Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by the Commissionโs head Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke.
NIMC clarified that XpressVerify is not one of the Commissionโs licensed partners for NIN verification services.
The Commission reiterated that citizensโ data is safe and secure in Nigeriaโs National Identity Database.
โThere is no data breach of any sort and the Citizensโ data is safe and secure in Nigeriaโs National identity databaseโ, NIMC stated.
โThe Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote has promptly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter to find out if any of the Commissionโs Tokenisation verification agents has in any way breach the licensing agreement either directly or through any of their sub-licenseesโ, the statement added.
OsunDailyNG recalls that the National Commissioner, Nigeria Data Protection Commission had earlier ordered a full-scale investigation in the matter.
