Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has re-emphasized the need for Nigeria to be productive, noting that the country is blessed and rich with abundant resources to feed itself and also export to other countries.

He assured that with the agricultural policies already put in place in the country and Niger State in particular, Nigeria is capable of feeding itself and other nations.

He made the assertion while receiving the Governor of the Year award from Leadership Newspaper, based on his outstanding innovative leadership and developmental strides of his government.

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Governors of Benue, Katsina and Oyo States and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi also bagged awards in different categories at the Annual Conference and Awards of Leadership Newspaper in Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu who bagged the Leadership Person of the Year award for 2023, was represented by his Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi.

The President acknowledged that Nigeria is in a difficult moment but assured she will come out of it strongly promising that his administration will continue to make decisions of great benefit to all.

He, however, appealed for more patience and understanding from Nigerians.

In his keynote address, the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, who spoke on the theme, โ€œNigeriaโ€™s Distress Economy; which way forwardโ€, stressed that bad governance, population crisis, inadequate and unstable electricity, and lack of strategy, among others by successive administrations have been the bane of Nigeriaโ€™s economy crisis.

He recommended that the federal government apply a N20 billion bond to fund a strategic project comprising railway, housing and agriculture; cut the cost of governance; respect institutionsโ€™ independence; and think structurally.
