Akintade Mathew, the pastor of Christ the King Church, says Nigerian youths are morally bankrupt and heavily influenced by negative trends on social media.

According to him, most attitudes young Nigerians display are influenced by social media and trends.

โ€œAll in the name of trend and civilisation, the rich African culture has been abandoned. We embrace indecent dressing and accept it as best to the detriment of our own decent style,โ€ the clergyman lamented. โ€œYou see our young girls dress half naked to expose all their bodies to the public. There is no shame anymore.โ€

Mr Mathew added, โ€œOur youths talk anyhow to their elders without respect; they utter bad slang when they speak. They listen to worldly and bad music. They believe in shortcuts to success. They want to make money without any effort to work hard.โ€

The Ilorin-based religious leader admonished youths to be real and stop following social media trends in the name of civilisation.

The Christ the King Church pastor gave the advice in Ilorin on Sunday in an interview and complained that youths are fond of copying bad trends that do not conform to African culture.

Mr Mathew advised youths to stop copying everything foreign or trends to corrupt society. The cleric also urged youths to be self-disciplined and not turn civilisation into bad conduct and immoral acts.

โ€œBe self-disciplined and stop copying social trends. Civilisation is not doing things in a negative way or adopting bad culture,โ€ he said.

The pastor also called on religious leaders, parents and NGOs to teach their children morals and stop encouraging bad culture.ย
