Workers in Delta State Tuesday embarked on a peaceful protest over the high level of economic hardship in Nigeria.

They marched from the Labour House through the popular Inter-Bua roundabout and converged at the entrance of the state Government House.

There was heavy presence of security operatives during the protest.

The workers led by the Vice Chairman of the State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), Comrade Ziko Okwudili, said the country was in a vicious cycle and called on the government to address the escalating cost of living.

He said the workers in the country could no longer bear the economic hardship, noting that the sufferings of Nigerians started from the day the fuel subsidy was removed by the Federal Government.

โ€œMarket women, building materials sellers, transporters have increased their prices, but salaries of Nigerian workers cannot be increased.

โ€œIf the mechanism of checkmating what is happening in Nigeria are being put in place, l donโ€™t think we would have been where we are,โ€ he said.

Addressing the workers, Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori identifies with the concerns of the workers.

He urged the Federal Government to listen to the cries of the labour movement.

โ€œWorkerโ€™s reaction is right and well positioned, so let us not get angry and destroy because to rebuild is more difficult,โ€ he advised.
