A Nigerian pilgrim, Aishatu Y’an Guru Nahuce, has reportedly returned the sum of $80,000 she found to the owner in Saudi Arabia.

The said money, when converted to Nigerian currency, is N56,000,000, OsunDailyNG understands.

Independent Hajj Reporters of Nigeria confirmed the citizen’s commendable act on its Facebook page on Saturday.

Aisha (a short form of Aishatu) hailed from Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the Hajj platform reported.

OsunDailyNG understands that no fewer than 95,000 Nigerians (Muslims precisely) travelled to the Holy Land for pilgrimage this year.

“This Nigerian pilgrim, Hajiya Aishatu Y’an Guru Nahuce from Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State, found $80,000 (N56,000,000) and handed it over to the Zamfara Pilgrims Welfare Agency official for onward return to the owner. May Almighty Allah rewards her honesty and accept her Hajj. Amen,” the post by Independent Hajj Reporters reads.

Some Nigerians on social media have reacted to the development by commending the citizen. Some of the netizens urged the Nigerian government to confer a National Award on the pilgrim when she returns home for posing herself as a ‘great ambassador of the country’ in a foreign land.

Some, however, expressed concern over the huge amount lost by an individual.

“Masha Allah, but the owner has exceeded the maximum cash he/she ought to have carrying along with, he must be investigated by the Saudi authorities,” One Abdullahi Muhammad Balarabe wrote.

Another, Ramalan Ahmed said, “Some news don’t add up. 80,000 dollars. What is someone in pilgrimage doing with it in his pouch or pocket? Was he there doing burue de change? Hmmm Allah yayi mana jagora.”
