OsunDailyNG looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Sunday 6th August 2023.

The PUNCH: Tempers were said to have risen on Saturday as senators discussed the request made by President Bola Tinubu on the need to send troops to Niger Republic to enforce the resolution of the Heads of States of the Economic Community of West African States for the junta that overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum to restore him to power or face military action.

The Guardian: There are feelings that the drumbeat for sit-at-home in the southeast region for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has become incoherent, producing different sounds for the dancers.

ThisDay: President Bola Tinubu in a letter to the Senate and read at plenary by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, sought the support of the National Assembly on the proposed military action and other sanctions planned by Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) against the military officers who recently seized power in Niger Republic.

The Nation: The Senate is set to meet with President Bola Tinubu to work out ways of resolving the impasse in Niger Republic. The Red Chamber decided yesterday that political and diplomatic options would serve all parties better in view of the age-long relationship between Abuja and Niamey.

The Senate position was shared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Jama’atu Nasri-Islam (JNI) and the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG).

Thank you for reading, that is all for today, see you again tomorrow for a review of Nigerian newspapers.
