OsunDailyNG looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Tuesday 1st August 2023.

The PUNCH: The organised labour has said it will hold its planned nationwide protest on Wednesday despite the Monday rollout of subsidy removal palliative plans by President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu had in a national broadcast unveiled N500bn palliative for manufacturers, small businesses and farmers. He also released plans to increase salaries and acquire 3,000 mass transit buses.

The Guardian: President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, insisted the current economic hardship is a necessary price Nigerians must pay to achieve a “balanced” and fair economy. The President, in a national broadcast, told Nigerians that he understood the “hardship” they face but wished “there were other ways” to achieve an inclusive economy.

Vanguard: PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu yesterday, unveiled measures to cushion the effects of the economic downturn, caused by fuel subsidy removal, in the country, telling Nigerians he understood the hardship and came to help, not to hurt them.

The Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday unfolded a raft of relief packages to cushion petrol subsidy removal pain. He announced the plan to spend billions of naira between now and March next year, to boost the economy and reflate businesses.

Daily Trust: The organised labour has expressed doubt on the sincerity of the interventions President Bola Tinubu rolled out in his national broadcast to Nigerians to cushion the effects of his administration’s policies on the citizens.
