Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The naira appreciated by 1.79 per cent against the United States dollar on the Investor & Exporter forex window on Tuesday, closing at N756.61/$. On Monday, local currency slumped to 770.38/$ at the close of trading on the I&E window on Monday, from 686.96/$ at the close of trading on Friday.

2. The Department of State Services, on Tuesday, urged the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to dismiss the fundamental rights suit filed by the suspended and detained Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele filed the suit, through his lawyer, J.B. Daudu, to demand his freedom, alleging that the DSS had been detaining him unlawfully.

3. Gunmen, on Monday, kidnapped the Oba of Idofin, Shedrack Obibeni, and a yet-to-be-identified man and his wife in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped around 5pm along the Makutu-Idofin Road in Kogi State.

4. The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has showered praise on the former governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, for honouring the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s invitation for questioning over his eight years tenure in office. Ortom visited the Makurdi office of the anti-graft agency on Tuesday following an invitation.

5. As part of moves aimed at uniting aggrieved members of the party, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday met with a select committee made up of prominent members, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki and immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, among others.

6. Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, says he is feeling like a lion that is ready to devour Nigeria’s enemies. He said this shortly after Vice-President Kashim Shettima decorated him in presence of his wife, Mrs Egbetokun, at a brief ceremony which took place at the Vice President’s Conference Hall.

7. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last night arrived in Paris, France, to participate in the review and signing of a New Global Financial Pact. His plane touched down at about 6:47pm and he was received by top government officials.

8. A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 20 for judgment in a suit filed by Leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow him unhindered access to his medical doctor. Justice Binta Nyako fixed the date after Kanu’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and lawyer to the DSS, A. M. Danlami, adopted their processes and presented their arguments for and against the suit.

9. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have continued to express frustration over difficulties in obtaining requisite electoral materials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute their petition against the declaration of Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the February 25 presidential poll.

10. Police in Bayelsa State have arrested 11 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers who have been terrorizing different parts of the state. Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Mr Romokere Ibani, while parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Yenagoa on Tuesday, said the command’s strategies have helped in achieving results in fighting crime in the state.
