The Nigeria Data Protection Commission, NDPC, on Wednesday in Abuja unveiled the Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (NDP-SRAP 2023-2027).
The action plan is intended to produce about N125 billion in income and create over 500,000 jobs.
The five-pillar NDP-SRAP was launched concurrently with a capacity-building workshop for Data Protection Officers on Data Privacy and Protection.
Governance, ecosystem and technology, human capital development, cooperation and collaboration, and funding and sustainability, are the five pillars.
Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the NDPC, stated at the launch that the NDP-SRAP and training were critical to the Commission’s objective of creating a robust data protection sector.
He recalled that part of the “Renewed Hope’’ agenda of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration was to create about two million jobs in the digital economy sector.
According to him, the data protection sector alone could create more than 500,000 jobs.
“The NDP-SRAP comprises interlinked initiatives and activities like job, wealth creation, human capital development, revenue generation, foundational initiatives for the digital economy and enhancing Nigeria’s global reputation.”
