The Federal Government is targeting transitioning the Nigerian Railway Corporation services from locomotives (diesel) to cheaper liquefied natural and compressed natural gas.

Minister of Transportation Saidu Alkali disclosed this on Thursday in a statement through the Media Director at the Ministry, Olujimi Oyetomi.

According to him, the development stems from the corporative advantage of LPG and CNG compared with diesel or locomotive energy sources.

Alkali reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโ€™s administrationโ€™s desire to provide Nigerians with efficient, affordable, and sustainable transportation given the recent removal of fuel subsidies.

โ€œIt is the desire of our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to provide an efficient, affordable, and sustainable transportation system for the people of this great country, and I am sure this would go a long way in bringing down the cost of transportation,โ€ Alkali said.

The development comes after the De-Sadel consortium presented the LNG-CNG alternative for joint deliberation by the Ministry of Transportation and the NRC at the Ministryโ€™s headquarters.
