The Nigerian and Turkish governments have initiated moves towards collaborating on border security.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said on Friday that Nigeria is ready to collaborate with Turkey in the area of border security.

A statement by Ozoya Imohimi, Director, Information and Public Relations in the Ministry of Interior, disclosed that the minister stated this when the Vice President, Ankara Chamber of Commerce, Dr ร–mer ร‡aฤŸlar Yilnaz, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo said that the Nigeria-Turkey relationship will be a mutually beneficial one for both countries as there will be an exchange of ideas and technology, as well as data transfer.

โ€œIt is a productive relationship. We will take it very seriously and hope we can set today as a foundation for greater things to come in the future,โ€ the minister said.

Earlier, Yilnaz thanked the minister for receiving the Turkish delegation.

He expressed a readiness to strengthen the current state of bilateral relations between Turkey and Nigeria in the fields of security, defence and aerospace.

โ€œI want to express Turkeyโ€™s interest in strengthening these ties and would like to explore potential areas of collaboration, such as technology transfer, joint ventures or training programmes,โ€ he said.

Yilnaz also extended an invitation to the minister to attend and participate at SEDEC 2024.

SEDEC 2024, Turkeyโ€™s homeland and border security conference and exhibition, will hold between 21st to 23rd May 2024 at Congresium, in Ankara, Turkey.

Yilnaz assured that the conference would be beneficial to Nigeria.
