The Aviation and Aerospace Development minister, Festus Keyamo, says Nigeria will review the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) with Algeria.

Keyamo disclosed this on Tuesday when the Algerian Ambassador, Hacine Lalti, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

According to him, the meetings of aeronautical engineers between both countries slated earlier for December will be brought forward tentatively to November 7th 2023, to fast-track the BASA review as demanded.

Speaking earlier, the Algerian Ambassador demanded a review of the July 14th 2022 agreement to include a direct flight to Abuja.

BASA provides for civil aviation certifications to be shared between two countries.

He further disclosed that the government of Algeria has identified Nigeria and South Africa as business opportunities countries they are willing to partner with.

Meanwhile, the aviation minister has promised to witness the inaugural flight from Uganda to Nigeria.

The minister, who gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Uganda High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Nelson Ocheger, said Nigeria and Uganda have a long history of brotherhood.

He said the direct flight to be witnessed would mark the beginning of a partnership between the two countries, noting that free trade agreements between African countries can only easily come through open skies.
