The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various regions in Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.

The weather outlook, issued on Saturday, predicts that the northern states, including Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe, will experience thunderstorms during the morning hours on Sunday, with continued stormy weather expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

In the North Central region, NiMet anticipates morning thunderstorms and rain over areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau.

These conditions are expected to persist later in the day, extending across the entire region. The southern cities are likely to start the day with cloudy skies, followed by intermittent rainfall later on.

For Monday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms in Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa, with the stormy weather continuing into the afternoon and evening across the northern states.

The North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara, is also expected to experience thunderstorms and rain during both morning and later hours.

Southern states are forecasted to have cloudy skies, with intermittent rain throughout the day.

On Tuesday, thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna in the morning, with the northern region likely to experience cloudy skies later in the day.

In the North Central area, Niger and Kwara may see morning thunderstorms with rain, while Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue could experience similar conditions in the afternoon and evening. The southern region is expected to face intermittent rain throughout the day.

NiMet has advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas, warning of potential urban flooding in major cities due to the heavy rainfall.

Strong winds are also likely to precede thunderstorms, and the public is urged to follow safety advisories and stay updated with weather information from NiMet.

Airline operators have been advised to obtain weather-specific reports from NiMet to aid in their operational planning.
