Nigeriaโs Under-21 Volleyball national team defeated their West African rivals, Ghana volleyball team to win the Zone 3 of the 2023 African U-21 Nations Womenโs Volleyball Championship.
The competition which took place in Niamey, Niger Republic on Sunday night, July 9, saw Nigeria defeat Ghana 3:0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) to claim the title.
Before the final of the Volleyball competition, the Nigerian women won their opening match of the competition 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8), defeating local rival Ghana.
They extended their winning streak by defeating the hosts, Niger, 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4) in their second encounter.
The team trounced the Benin Republic in their third game, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) to earn a final rematch against Ghana and the womenโs team from Nigeria came out victorious.
After the outstanding run in the competition and the eventual victory in the final over the Ghanian side, the coach of the Nigeria Under-21 Volleyball national team, Rakiya Mohammed, told the press how excited she is to lead the team to a victorious outing.
โWe bless God because this is the first time Nigeria is clinching a trophy at the underage level. I feel so happyโ, the former assistant coach of Nigeriaโs Under-18 Volleyball national team said.
โThe Ghanaians came all out but the girls proved their worth and we have now qualified for the world championship in Thailand.โ
