Hajiya Fatima Bago, the wife of Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, has called for collective efforts to end all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
Bago made the call in Minna on Friday, at a two -day training on etiquette protocol, security and empowerment, organised for female political office holders in Niger State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised by Mrs Bago, in collaboration with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women and Affirmative Action, Mrs Mary Berje.

The governorโ€™s wife also advised women against any form of violence and discrimination against their fellow women.

According to her, it is incumbent on government at all levels to create a safe and supportive environment where women could strive without fear.

โ€œThe discussion on women empowerment is not complete without addressing the issue of gender-based violence.

โ€œTogether we must stand united against violence and discrimination against women.โ€

Bago said that affirmative action serves as a cornerstone for bridging gender disparity and ensuring that women were not misrepresented in governance.

She called on women to strive to live with integrity and set a high ethical standard for themselves and the future generations, stressing that they play critical roles in reshaping the narrative across the globe.

According to her, the involvement of women in governance is not just an option but a necessity for the growth and development of societies.

She also advised women to explore opportunities in small and medium enterprises and take advantage of the vast arable land in the state and the agriculture value chain to key into the new Niger agenda.

Earlier, Berje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affirmative Action, advised women in political positions to justify the confidence reposed in them by the governor. (NAN)
