The Niger State House of Assembly, through its Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has tasked the 25 councils to execute projects with direct benefits to the people.
The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on LG Hon, Dr Bello Alhaji Bako, Member, Rijau Constituency, made the call at the start of the committeeโs oversight visit to local governments in the state.
Bako told the LG bosses the oversight visit was not meant to witch-hunt but to determine the level of compliance with the local government appropriation law.
He then appealed to the council chairmen to execute projects that directly benefit the peopleโs socio-economic development.
Council Areas visited by members of the Committee in Zone C include Mashegu, Magama, Rijau, Mariga and Kontagora.
The Committee reviewed and enquired into the total net allocations to the councils from January 2023 to date and the total amount generated as Internal Revenue by the Council from January 2023 to date.
Others are project files and designs executed by the council during the period under review, due process certificate and certificate of incorporation by the contractors, as well as evidence of registration of contracts with the councils, and Finance and General Purpose Committee Minute (F&GPC) of meetings, among others.
The Chairmen of the various LGs visited in the zone appreciated members of the committee for the visit and assured them that they would do what was needed.
They also expressed their readiness to cooperate at all times with the committee to ensure the socio-economic development of the councils.
Members of the Committee include Engr. Mohammed Alhaji Haruna (Bida South), Abubakar Suleiman Gomna (Bosso), Murtala Adamu Badaru (Suleja), Mohammed Isah Etsugaie (Agaie), Alhassan Isah (Mashegu) and Mohammed Garba (Agwara).
