The police have sought partnership with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to engage Nigerian diaspora communities globally to promote unity, collaboration, and support for development initiatives in Nigeria.
According to a statement by Gabriel Odu, a spokesperson for NiDCOM, Ibrahim Mogaji, the national chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), sought the partnership during a courtesy visit to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the commission’s chairman, in Abuja.
Mr Mogaji said the PCRC had begun the establishment of its offices in the UK, Canada and Saudi Arabia, respectively.
The national chairman said the current administration of the PCRC had made successes within six months of its inauguration, with the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
He further said the organisation, saddled with representing public members, worked to strengthen the relationship between the police and the communities they served.
He added that this focused on enhancing security, reducing crime, and giving the Nigerians in the diaspora access to any information about the police.
“The PCRC-Diaspora is committed to advocating rights and well-being of Nigerian diaspora communities, as well as promoting a positive image of Nigeria and its people.”
PCRC delegation commended the NiDCOM boss for her strides so far and, most importantly, her facilitation of the evacuation of stranded Nigerians citizens in Sudan.
The commission’s secretary, Sule Bassi, represented Ms Dabiri-Erewa.
Ms Dabiri-Erewa lauded the initiative and commended the establishment of the group, noting that it was achieving what it was set out to do.
She also mentioned that NiDCOM, as one of the accessible government agencies, was ready to collaborate with the PCRC to fulfil its mandate.
The NiDCOM chairman also emphasised the need for Nigerians in the diaspora to register on the NiDCOM Diaspora portal database for ease of demographic imperatives.
