Newcastle United will be without their left-winger, Harvey Barnes when they face Manchester City in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday, September 27 due to an โusual injuryโ.
Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, confirmed earlier today, September 26, that Harvey Barnes is expected to miss โmonths rather than weeksโ owing to a โsubstantialโ foot injury.
The 25-year-old England international staggered off the pitch after just 12 minutes of Sundayโs 8-0 hammering of Sheffield United.
Barnes, who was acquired from Leicester in July for ยฃ38 million, underwent a scan to determine whether surgery was necessary for the foot injury but it has not been confirmed whether the player would go under the knife yet.
However, the Newcastle United coach confirmed that the injury was serious which means that the Englishman is most likely to be operated upon.
โItโs an injury to a part of the foot just below the toe. I think itโs quite a substantial injury,โ Howe said.
โI wonโt go too technical because Iโm not qualified to do so but yes itโs a very unusual injury.โ
The coach added: โHe was down after the game because he knew it wasnโt a normal injury where you feel a muscle and think that might be one or two weeks. This was a slightly more complex issue.โ
Since he arrived at Newcastle United from relegated Leicester City, Harvey Barnes has scored once and assisted once in 7 games in all competitions for his new club.
